With all the buzz around Matter and other IoT hardware, starting out might be a little overwhelming. There’s so much to work with, where should you start? We’ve got a few Hackster projects from members of our community that’ll be sure to give you some inspiration and get the gears turning in your head of what your next IoT project will be!
1. Monitor Flow Rate Remotely
Learn how to remotely open or close a valve, and measure the liquid flow state over cellular in this project using the Blues Wireless Function Board and flow monitoring materials. Manually monitoring a system like this is tedious, and using an IoT applicaton to handle it makes it easier for facility managers to monitor their pipes.
2. Use Cellular to ID Chicken Eggs Thermally
In this projectHackster user Rob Lauer from Blues Wireless wanted to find a way to use thermal technology to detect if his chickens had laid any eggs, since it’s extremely cold in Wisconsin and going outside to check isn’t an entirely pleasant experience. Using thermal sensors and cellular data transmission, he was able to ID eggs from inside his house.
3. Detect Algae Bloom
In this projectthe Blues Wireless Notecard is used alongside a Raspberry Pi with Edge Impulse machine learning algorithms to determine algae bloom in a water sample. Hazardous algae can grow when conditions are too warm or the water is too saturated with nutrients. This algae can bloom undetected and become dangerous to marine and human life, and this project aims to create a way to detect it from afar.
4. Smart Glasses for the Blind
This project from Hackster user Amal Shajan aims to help the visually impaired by using ultrasonic sensors that then gives an audio signal to the wearer to describe their surroundings.
5. Smart Grocery Cart
In this Smart Cart projectHackster user Eat More (who also made the algae bloom detector) uses Edge Impulse computing with an OpenMV Cam H7 to create a checkout-free shopping experience that lets customers create an online shopping list and pay via email.
