WHAT IS A GENERATOR CONTROLLER?

Generator control panels are responsible for starting and stopping the generator, monitoring its status, and ensuring it runs safely.

The panel’s components include:

  • A circuit breaker to protect against overloads (OLR)
  • A start-up circuit breaker (SUCB)
  • An automatic voltage regulator (AVR)
  • An automatic voltage regulator (AVR)

The generator control panel is connected to the generator by a cable. This cable carries information about the generator’s status, such as voltage output and oil pressure. The panel lets you start and stop the generator using a remote control device. The generator control panel also contains an internal breaker (IB). This is a safety device that trips if the generator’s voltage output exceeds prescribed limits. The IB protects you and your equipment from electrical fires and shock.
